THE opening of Sunset Veranda on Scarborough Beach on Friday will pay respect to the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land and sea.

The Fringe World venue on Brighton Reserve will feature free live music, entertainment and arts activities until February 17.

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the opening event would launch and celebrate the new format of the festival and pay respect to the traditional Aboriginal owners.

“The 2019 Sunset Veranda is being held on Wadjuk Country, so we’d love the community to help us pay respects to the Wadjuk People of the Noongar Nation past, present and future and celebrate the beginning of a month of culture, fun and entertainment,” he said.

“We wanted the whole family to be able to get the most out of Sunset Veranda 2019, so we have made sure people of all ages can take part and get involved in the Fringe World experience.”
