Funny females wanted
Funny females wanted for Hersday at Fremantle Comedy Factory
FUNNY and female? Tor Snyder wants you on stage.
The manager of the Fremantle Comedy Factory is the brain behind Hersday, a bi-monthly female-only stand-up comedy night aimed at getting more women behind the mic.
“The women love it, the audience love it, it’s so much more supportive,” Ms Snyder said. “It was a way to bring diversity to the night and to change things up a little bit.”
Hersday has been running at Fremantle’s Sail and Anchor Hotel for the past year and has proved so popular Ms Snyder is branching out with more all-female nights at The Moon in Northbridge. She has just one problem: while audiences love seeing funny women on stage, finding enough to perform can be a challenge.
“We do it every two months,” Ms Snyder said. “I wish we could do it more, but again, we need more women.
“It can still be a bit of a struggle to actually book the line-up. That’s not because people don’t want it, but because a lot of the people we are getting are mothers and their priority is taking care of their children.”
